Stephens Manufacturing Company, Inc., a half-century old, manufacturer of concrete batching equipment, will be opening a new manufacturing facility in Burkesville, Ky., located in Cumberland County. Stephens is a family owned business based in Tompkinsville, Ky.
The firm will be constructing a 19,800-sq.-ft. building on Lower River Street in Burkesville. The total cost of the project is expected to be approximately $2.5 million. The company plans to employ approximately 20 people during the first year, with plans to double that number during the next 4 to 5 years.
"We are very excited about coming to Cumberland County" said Stephens Manufacturing President Max Stephens. "We are very appreciative of all the efforts of city and county leaders on this project." He further stated that the incentives offered by county leaders, coupled with the readily available labor force, were the key factors in choosing the area for Stephens Manufacturing's expansion.
Stephens also stated this would not have any negative effect on the approximately 130 employees at the Tompkinsville facility. "The primary purpose of the facility in Burkesville is to accomodate current and projected future growth," he explained.
