Stephens Mfg. Co. has been around for over 65 years in the Ready-Mix industry, founded by entrepreneur Bill Stephens in Tompkinsville, KY. Many customers have gained a sense of loyalty and familiarity with the name and the Stephens family throughout the years. Stephens Mfg. proudly started as Stephens Ready Mix in the early 1950s and continued to grow by manufacturing concrete plant products for other ready-mix producers in the area. A time came when the ready-mix business was passed onto another family in town, and Stephens Mfg. Concrete Batch Plants was officially formed.
From that moment forward, Bill Stephens worked alongside 2 sons, Tommy and Max Stephens. Building a business and a new way of life for the Stephens family, our faithful employees, and the small community of Tompkinsville, KY.
To ensure that Bill’s legacy continues for another 65 years, the Stephens family decided to explore other means of sustaining Stephens Mfg. Co’s prosperity.
As of January 2025, Stephens Manufacturing is officially an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
This new benefit plan gives employees a direct ownership stake in the company, fostering a sense of pride and personal investment for themselves and the customers of Stephens Mfg, as well as offering a valuable retirement savings. While this may surprise and shock many in our industry, we want to guarantee our values, and reliability will stay the same for many years. When asked about this decision, President & CEO Max Stephens commented, “My family and I had lots of conversations and spent many nights praying about this decision. How would it affect our employees, customers, and small town? Ultimately, this decision came a lot easier knowing that Stephens Mfg would survive another 60+ years with the same morals and values that we hold today.”

Stephens Mfg will still be a family-run business, operating out of Tompkinsville and Burkesville, Kentucky, with the same family values we have continuously operated on. This new ownership empowers the employees by offering every team member a true sense of their own ownership and responsibility.”
